It's something a lot of guys miss.
There are a lot of great things going on with Justin Timberlake's
black-tie style at this year's Cannes Film Festival. You've got his
on-point grooming, for one thing—an expertly executed side part
complemented by a close-cropped beard. And then there are the details on
his tux, particularly the turn-back cuffs with a satin facing. It's a
move you don't see much anymore, but as illustrated by this photo, it's a
damn good one:

But if you're going to take away just one thing from his look—and you
should—let it be this: his masterful approach to proportion. If you're
not sure what we're getting at, here's a brief primer: The width of your
jacket's lapels should match the width of your tie and the length of
your collar. Basically, if you're going big, go big everywhere. And if
you want to keep it skinny, make sure that extends to everything else.
Too often, guys ignore this. Just check out this shot from the Oscars for proof:
See how those gigantic lapels overpower everything else? That's not a
good look. Timberlake, on the other hand, makes sure his wide lapels are
set off by a big bow tie, sizable cuffs, and a longer collar, lending
balance to the entire outfit. It's something a lot of men miss, but it's
an easy way to make sure you look your best when you're dressing to the
nines.
By the way, his red carpet cohort and Trolls costar Anna Kendrick looked fantastic as well. Take a gander:
That is one very stylish duo, even if they do look like they get exhausted by the red-carpet grind from time to time.
Chin up, you two. Only six months until your movie comes out.
