He addresses the rumor that some of those accusatory lyrics might actually be about him
While many have speculated that one of the main inspirations for Beyoncé's Lemonade was husband Jay Z's infidelities, quite a few believe that some of those fiery lyrics might actually be about her father. Before their divorce in 2011, it was reported that Bey's dad and former manager Mathew Knowles cheated on her mother, Tina — and on Monday, Mathew went on SiriusXM radio show Make It Plain to address the speculation about which Lemonade lyrics might actually be about him.

In a spoken word portion of the Lemonade visual
album, Beyoncé asks, "Did he bend your reflection? Did he make you
forget your own name? Did he convince you he was a god? Did you get on
your knees daily? Do his eyes close like doors? Are you a slave to the
back of his hand?"
She
continues, "Am I talking about your husband or your father?" Then, the
song "Daddy Lessons" comes on. Are these lyrics in reference to her
father? "I don't know but I don't think so," Mathew told host Mark
Thompson. "I've never in my life hit my daughter."
"There's
no way that we can get into the mind of Beyoncé. Only Beyoncé can
answer who she specifically is talking to," Mathew continued. "I'd
rather not get into speculation, so my answer is I don't know."
"I
can only speak of being a proud father," he went on. "I think Beyoncé
pushed the envelope of creativity on this HBO special ... I know the
response you want to get. You're not going to get that response."
Bey's
relationship with her father has been the subject of public
analysis for over a decade, especially after the two ended their
professional ties in 2011. Whatever is going on with their relationship,
she featured footage of him throughout the visual Lemonade album, including some more recent shots of him with Blue Ivy.
