A concert promoter
based in Nigeria is suing Rihanna, Jay Z, and Roc Nation for a concert
that was allegedly supposed to happen in May 2013, TMZ
reports. Chris Ubosi and Megalectrics claim that he had signed a deal
with people who said they were from the label and that Rihanna would
perform for 65 minutes for $425,000. The New York Daily News
adds that the lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday.
In the suit, Ubosi claims that he made an advanced payment of $160,000
before reps for Rihanna postponed the show. When no new date was
announced, the promoter canceled the show and subsequently asked for a
refund, which was never received. At the time, Rihanna was in the middle
of her "Diamonds" world tour in support of her seventh studio album, Unapologetic.
A
Roc Nation rep has since told TMZ that no one associated with Rihanna
and Roc Nation was ever in contact with Ubosi: "Unfortunately this
person was scammed. Rihanna nor Roc Nation collected any money for this
event."
Rihanna and Jay Z have not publicly commented on the matter, but I'm pretty sure the response would look something like this:
